Hello Loretta, A bouffant hairstyle fit for Fist City.

Hello Loretta! I’m obsessed with Loretta Lynn and I have been since I first heard her sing ‘Fist city’ and that song she did about “The Pill.”  What a lady.

When her and Jack White recorded together, I could barely contain my excitement.

I also love Loretta Lynn’s hair. In her honor, and also in honor of my dear friend Holley and her daughter Loretta, here is a DIY bouffant hairstyle that is sweet and sassy as the coal miner’s daughter herself.

Start with curling your hair with one of HTHG’s easy no-heat curl techniques. This will add more volume to straight hair. If your hair is already wavy or curly, no need to curl it. Spray it down with a texture spray to make it stickier, or no-poo it to get it into perfect up-do texture. You can also sprinkle cornstarch into it to give it more lift.

Got your hair rat or foam form? Good. Let’s do this.

Take a section of hair at the crown and back comb it.

Grab your hair rat.

fold the ends of your crown section over the back of the hair rat, and roll it down.

Pin the hair and hair rat into the back of the head, and then smooth it into shape. Add more pins if needed, to get that perfect ‘bump’

Now, take all the hair at the temple area and twist it down to the ends.

wrap it around the front of the bump, and pin it.

Repeat on the other side.

Now gather the hair into a  ponytail that is just barely off to one side. Give your ponytail a little facelift.

Now be like Loretta Lynn and make lemonade out of life’s lemons. XO!
