Catching up with HTHG, hair news, random shit.

Hi babes. How are you all doing? I want to take a sec to fill you in on what I have been up to.

In HTHG news, I accepted a job as a hair writer for About.com. I gave it a lot of thought, and finally decided that with the help of Rain, we can pull it off and bust it out, and hopefully bring some fresh new content to the About empire, while still sharing tricks and tips on HTHG. We will be doing a monthly roundup on HTHG of guest blogs from both About and Refinery 29 who I am also excited to be working with on articles from the positive side of the beauty industry:)

You can expect a nice mixture of old themes revamped, as well as brand new tips, tricks and info.

In other news, I went to the bay area last weekend with my older daughter Marley to visit my sister Brook and her sweet family, and Brette and Cobra.

My sister and her hubby Jose and my little nephew Buster showed us a lovely time, took us to Pacifica Beach where we jumped into the Pacific ocean, and Marley immediately rolled in the sand, covered her body with seaweed, and found a dead fish to play with. Win!

In San Francisco, I lost my heart ( I do every time) to the fog, the sparkling city, the sea lions barking, and Brette and her perfectly bohemian North Beach life at the Newell House, where Anti-hero skater dudes come and go all day and night, mostly to play with Cobra the 2 year old serpent child.IMG_1912

Brette introduced me to Internet K-hole, showing me a Hamburger Eyes zine featuring their found photos. I fell in love instantly and made it a point to purchase 2 of them before we left. We headed to the Hamburger Eyes Photo headquarters to pick them up. Hamburger Eyes is the coolest photo zine there is. They are SF based, but recently got kicked out of their studio and are in the middle of a move to LA.

While in SF, I saw several haircuts like this…….Screen Shot 2014-10-12 at 10.12.57 AM Screen Shot 2014-10-12 at 10.11.13 AM

Which reminded me of the time when I melted off my own hair and had to cut my hair into this funny little bob.Screen Shot 2014-10-12 at 10.10.08 AM ( I’m the one with the funny little bob.) Photos from The bob page and Slodive.com

A couple weeks ago, I took my daughters to Gold Bar, where Nikki and Gabe have a cabin on the Skagit river. We spent the entire weekend dorking around on the riverbank, making designs with rocks and sticks and flowers and charcoal. I was in absolute heaven.

It took me literally 2 hours of complete foraging and designing concentration to make this eyeball and guess what?!?!?!?!? Just as I was starting to add the FINAL FINISHING TOUCHES, the lower lashes, a tweeker came out of NOWHERE with his frisky mangy pit bull who came running up to me and stepped all over my eyeball, tearing it to shreds. You know what I did? I punched it in the face.

Note to self. Don’t ever punch a dog, especially a pit bull. Number one, it isn’t nice to be violent and Number two, they have strong jaws. I was lucky that I didn’t get bit. I think I honestly surprised it so much that it left me alone. FYI, Iove dogs. I was just majorly pissed.

Lastly in my hair news, I got seriously bored with my hair so I decided to just go for that little red bob that I have been obsessing over, since I saw it on Joan from Mad Men and also on Style noted.

IMG_1957Screen Shot 2014-10-12 at 10.02.24 AMSo, I cut the back of my hair shorter, using the shlob technique.

Then, I colored it red. First, I used henna. Then I mixed up Special Effects Hot Lava with conditioner and put that over it to brighten it.

Whew! Sometimes having a new hair do just feels right. Something about the changing seasons always makes me want to do something a little different, ya know?

IMG_1994How are all of you doing? Thanks again for being here, BTW.

xoxo, HTHG
