Friends old and new, after years of thinking, planning and dreaming on a Hair Horoscope, I am finally launching our monthly Free Your Hair HAIROSCOPE.
I never did land on a very fixed vision of what this Hairoscope would look like……And so I decided to just go for it, write from what I know and love, collaborate with artists and healers that I love, and offer this series as an ever-changing and morphing guide for Hair-Centered Radical Self Care, Ritual and Beauty in honor and tribute to each sign as they enter into their place in the Sun Rotation.
With this Hairoscope, we hope to inspire each sign of the zodiac to take some extra time on their birthday month to really love on and care for themselves. Every month, we will pull a card to share from The Moon Deck to inspire your monthly self-care ritual. With the sage advice of The Moon Deck, we will adapt our monthly mantras to bless and honor our own hair. We invite you to share these monthly Hairoscopes with your friends who are of that month’s astrological sign and help them take some time for self love!
For this series, I worked with artist Madison McClain to create our women of the horoscope, and with intuitive writer and healer Aarona Ganesan, co-creator of The Moon Deck, which is the Tarot Deck I use daily to inspire my own personal self-care rituals.
This month, we honor the Capricorn.
Moon Deck Ritual:
(Words and Rituals adapted from the Moon Deck Guidebook, changed slightly to speak specifically to our hair.)
Hair Brush Mantra:
Every relationship is a lesson in love, challenging us to go deeper into the infinite realm of intimacy. Connection is in our nature and vital to our health. Above any outside relationship, however, when we drop into a loving romance with ourselves we heal the blocks to true intimacy and can share more deeply with one another.
Every woman has gone through something that has changed her in some way. Barriers to intimacy may be rooted to distant or recent experiences. Wherever you are on this path, this card asks you to remain open. Trust that you can forge rich loving connections with others, intimacy comes in many forms. Adjust your perspective. Walk as a loved woman. Embrace your most intimate romance-the one you have with yourself. Lean into your own heart and feel the warm embers of your love.
Here is Your Hair Mantra for this month.
Love and Intimacy flow into my life (and hair! ) effortlessly.
Take 5 minutes today to brush this mantra into your hair, repeating it to yourself with every stroke. Be in a comfortable, calm place without distraction. Close your eyes and breath, centering your body as you brush. If you are not a regular hair brusher, here is why we think you should try it, and here is where to get yourself a beautiful hair brush to work into your hair care ritual.
Rose Blessing:
Roses have been cherished for centuries for their sensual nature. They evoke the spirit of love and uplift the mood. Find fresh or dried roses that have no toxic sprays of chemical pesticides for this ritual. Fill them with prayers of love.
-Infuse rose petals in hot distilled water (approx. 1 part petals to 2 parts water.) Steep several hours or overnight for more fragrant potency.
-Rose Bath: Add both steeped roses and rose water to a hot bath or a beautiful basin. Soak and scrub your face/body/hands/feet/scalp and hair to nourish your skin and spirit. Welcome love and intimacy as you visualize flowers blossoming in your heart center and petals surrounding your crown.
Hair Advice:
Take stock of the times that you have been made to feel less than great about your hair. Which of these stories have become the stories that you tell yourself to be true?
A hairdresser once told me that my hair was really thin. It became my belief that I had thin hair, and that it was a bad thing. A boy in middle school said my hair made me look like a man. I have spent most of my life convinced that my hair is mannish and it has made it hard for me to understand and embrace my own feminine side, let alone my own masculine side. My kids say I have clown hair. I am embracing my inner clown:)
A great first step to building love and intimacy with our own hair and our own selves is remembering these stories and then letting them go, or reframing them into positivity.
Capricorn, retell these stories and rewrite your own truths about your hair. Write a love letter to your hair and all of it’s quirks, remembering that no two heads of hair in this entire world are exactly the same. If you are stuck in a hair rut ( hand eternally raised. ) Vow to try something different in this new year.
Cap Challenge: Dear Caps, we honor your need for simplicity and streamlined organization…..We understand that lightening your load of clutter is necessary for that radical forward thinking which keeps you ignited. This month, we challenge you to take some time to go through your bathroom shelves and cabinets and take a good look at your product and self-care tool load. Check expiration dates, ingredient lists, and shake down whether each bottle and brush and tool feels worthy of living on your alter of self care.
As we grow and change, often we outgrow existing routines….We learn to be more choosy and intentional with our belongings, with things we allow into our lives. Keep only what serves you in health and love. Keep only what allows you to honor yourself as you are today…..Get rid of all that suggests that you need to strive to be someone or something different. Begin to build that Self Care Alter with conscious, loving care.
Thanks for being with us today!
Please check out The Moon Deck for more musings. Capricorns, may we suggest you get your own deck as a birthday gift to yourself and make a vow to love yourself and your hair more in this coming year.
What would you like to see woven into our monthly Hairoscope? I would love to hear your feedback! We are excited to watch this series grow and change with your input.
