juiceThere is hard scientific research being done as we speak to try to find a way to make hair grow faster. If you don’t believe me, ask the gorgeously long shaggy haired lab rats at Stanford university labs. I don’t know if the genetically modified product will hit the market in our lifetime with all the science world red tape dealing with the FDA these days, sooooooooo……. in the meantime, we have to rely on more natural remedies to help us to support our own healthy hair growth.

As you know, I am an adventurous experimenter and lover of natural remedies. I have been shocked over and over again with immediate positive results that I have gotten from using and mixing my own hair and skin products. What you may not know is that I am a huge believer in a holistic and dietary approach to healing and good health.

Let me introduce you to my juicer. This, is Martha. She is my 1973 Champion juicer. I got her from my dear friend Iris.

The vintage champions are hard to find so If you don’t have a good juicer and are in the market for the ultimate kitchen appliance to support your healthy hair, skin and body, check out Williams-Sonoma juicer guide here. I recommend a slow-masticating cold press juicer like the Kuvngs Whole Slow Juicer. I also am a total long-time fan of the classic Vitamix for juicing and blending raw fruits and vegetables. I use mine constantly.
I started juicing at the same time that I started growing out my hair because I had read a lot about the benefits of juicing on hair and skin. I had tried taking Biotin to make my hair grow faster but I couldn’t afford to keep it up.

I now juice everything. I juiced mushrooms once (it didn’t work) I have juiced stinging nettle (mild and stingy in the throat!) and any time there is old produce shriveling in my fridge produce drawer, you can bet that Martha will turn it into juice.

I have always had sluggishly slow growing hair. When I started juicing, that ended. I have experimented over the last few years with different veggie and fruit blends. Some have tasted fantastic (Fresh strawberries and mint!) and others not so much ( juiced radishes) . But they have all power punched nutrition and a sense of well being into my daily life.

About a year ago I started researching the vitamins and minerals that support hair growth.

Here is what I have learned…..

Healthy hair growth necessities

B vitamins are essential to healthy and fast hair growth. I have learned that vitamins A, C, and E are also essential. I have learned that amino acids are the building blocks of protein, which is what your hair is made of. I have learned that eating foods that are alkalizing supports proper absorption of essential vitamins and minerals and supports hair regrowth, as well as basically all other healthy body functions.

Knowing these things, I formulated a recipe a several months ago that I have been using 3 -5 times a week. My hair and nails have been growing like crazy. When I drink this stuff, I can literally feel the hair on my body growing, like a werewolf. I have to trim my nails twice as often, and wax my legs every 3 weeks. My hair is growing fast and thick.

I want to share this recipe with you today because it actually really works. I want you to share it with your friends not only because it works for hair, but also because it is incredible for your skin and internal organ function. Did you know that an Alkaline diet keeps the body at a PH level that is inhospitable for cancer growth? I want you to live long with that healthy hair!

For this juice, you will need either a high powered blender or a juicer. If you are using a blender, you will want to strain out the solids from the liquids for best results. WHY? Because when you remove the fibers, the body can quickly and efficiently absorb all the vitamins and minerals from the juice without having to work double time to digest the solids. If you don’t like the idea of wasting the solids, freeze em in zip lock bags or ice cube trays and throw em into soup broth for thickness and flavor.

This juice has a savory flavor, like V8 but yummier. It is dark and thick and rich and quite filling. Make and drink this juice in the morning on an empty stomach for best results. Consider it your breakfast, or pre-breakfast booster. You will need a medium mason jar with a lid to make mixing and shaking easier;)

Here is the recipe!

Long, fast growing, healthy hair recipe

-beets and beet greens ( Iron, benefical minerals, folate )

-parsley (Vitamins A, B, and C)

-kale or chard ( B12, iron, folic acid)

-carrots ( Vitamins A and C)

*You can also add peppers or cukes or garlic or any other vegetable that you like for more flavor.IMG_3557 I like to add a dash of tabasco.

After juicing or blending and straining vegetables, pour into your mason jar and add in……..

-2 t-spoons Braggs liquid amino acids ( Protein building blocks and absorption)

-1 t-spoon Braggs ACV (Alkalizing)

-2 t-spoons Lemon juice (Vitamin C and alkalizing)

-1 tablespoon nutritional yeast( Mega B vitamins)

Put the lid on your jar and shake. Now drink up! IMG_3556
