I need your help HTHG,

I’ve been growing out my hair from an impulsive mid-July heat wave shave. It’s been over a year, but my golden locks are still unshapely and and just plain “in-between” lengths. I’ve worn some form of a bandana or a hat almost daily for so long now that I’ve forgotten how to style my own hair. Between having a new baby and not having a particular hair “style” this frumpy new mom bandana “do” has got to go!

I have an important dress-up event coming up and I need ideas to dress up this medium short platinum hair. Can you help?

Signed,

Doo-Ragged Mama

Dear Doo-rag mama

I, too, am a mama with not much time or patience for styling my own hair. When an important event rolls around, shampooing my hair is generally the extent of my style, however, i’m trying to get more creative.

On that note, lets talk about pin curls. This is a method of curling short to medium length hair that has been used for centuries by women who want to create wave, curl, polish, and body to their otherwise uninspired hairstyles. It’s perfect for when your hair is at the awkward grow out stage between short and medium. It doesn’t use any heat or chemicals, which is also awesome for chemically processed hair.

It can be done at home with a handful of bobby-pins, a comb, and your fave product. ( I love Hair Resort but KM) Total prep time, or actually putting in the curls, is about 15 minutes. Then wrap a little scarf around it, go to sleep, wake up and brush it out into deep waves for a 20’s inspired style, or poof it out a bit and summon up your inner Marilyn Monroe!

Pin curled hair will last a long time, so plan on at least 3 days of wearing your ‘do!

So, Doo-rag mama, from one mama to another, lets try some pin curls to get you ready for your big event. Stay tuned for your free pin curl tutorial soon. XOXO, HTHG.
