Hiya! Happy #DIYhair Friday. I have been doing a lot of experimenting with fishtail braiding lately. My hair is layered, and not quite long enough to justify wearing one braid down the side or the back. So, I have to get creative. The thing about braiding layered hair is that the braid gets really thin and kind of ratty towards the end, which is great for some days, but today I wanted something a little more polished.
I am excited to share with you the Herringbone Ponytail! It is REALLY easy, and all you need is 1 long bobby pin. I used my headband no heat curl trick first, to add a little extra wave and bounce to the ponytail. This hairstyle is cool because it is kind of a half-up half-down style, but its also kind of a ponytail. It is soft and feminine and beautiful from the front and the back.
Here is how to get the look….
Start by lightly back-combing the crown area to add a little lift.
1. Divide the hair into 2 sections down the back. Take a small piece of hair from the outside of each section and overlap them across the back to begin the fishtail braid.
2. Continue taking small pieces of hair from the outside of both sections, and overlapping them, one at a time. This is how to do a fishtail ( Herringbone braid.)
3. When the braid reaches the bottom of your hairline, take a long bobby pin and pin it through the bottom overlaps of the braid, and then push it up and under the braid so that it is out of sight.
4. Now arrange your ponytail nicely over one shoulder. Arrange your bangs and your lady parts to frame your face.
Don’t you look charming?! Now tell me what kind of DIY hairstyle tutorial you would like to see on HTHG……
