Hi friends. I hope you all are enjoying 2014 so far. I have to say, I really am. It is going to be a good year. I told you a couple weeks back that I was going to slow down on blogging, but I have realized that writing and sharing is essential to my soul. So I won’t slow down too much.
Today I want to put it out there that I would love to see your hair and your creative DIY hairstyles. I am welcoming all reader tutorial submissions right now, as a way to encourage you to share your ideas with each other as well as help y’all promote your blogs or products or selves. As examples, HTHG readers have submitted tutorials like the Ponybow, Herbal facial steams, Witch hair, among many others. Check em out and get a feel. I want to see your favorite hairstyles, protective styles, no-heat curls, DIY products, hair-care routines and philosophies!
Here are some tips and things to consider when submitting a tutorial.
How to make a good, pin-able, step by step hair tutorial!
-Write out simple and easy to follow numbered step-by-step instructions. Keep it concise. Keep it under 8 steps.
-Include at least one nice photo of the finished product or look, or put together a photo collage with numbered photos to correspond with written steps. Picmonkey.com makes this oh so fun and easy! Or if you are just working from your Iphone, Picstitch is a great photo-collage-ing app.

-You don’t need a fancy camera or photo editing software! selfies are fine! lap-top shots work great!. If, however, you are wanting to invest in a good blogging camera a Sony rx-100 is a great start. Check out this post.
-Having a friend help you with the photos is a little easier and will improve the quality of the shots, unless you have a tripod and a remote or timer for those back-of-the head and side shots:) Get a couple pals together and have a hair party! take fun shots of each other, and send them my way! It would make me do a happy dance to share your hair experiences:)
-For the sake of social media share-ability, tutorials that have nice photos, interesting names, and solid simple backgrounds get shared most often. Try to make sure that corresponding photos clearly demonstrate each step. Notice that the above tutorial is simple and concise, with easy to follow visual steps without even the need for written instructions? This is the ultimate goal, if pin-ability is what you are going for:)
-Get creative! We want to see something new!……Interesting fact…….The random-est hairstyles that I almost don’t post because they are too different are almost always the ones that get re-posted the most. Which is funny, surprising, and make me happy.
– If you don’t have the time to put together a tutorial, I love posting photos that show you and your hair in your environment…..Not overly fancy or styled, and a simple description of your do’ or your hair philosophy. Check this post out as an example. On the fly, post an instagram photo of yourself and tag it #HTHG or #howtohairgirl and I will share it with my followers.
