Rain’s Insane Mane and Bonus Braid Tutorial!

7U6A5574The other day, I had the pleasure of doing the easter-egg hair dying technique on Rains blonde hair, and it turned out magic.

7U6A5300We used an assortment of Manic Panic colors, lightened to pastels by adding tons of conditioner. Specifically, I used Limelight, Electric Banana, Cotton Candy Pink, Bad Boy Blue, and Pretty Flamingo.

7U6A5287Later on, Lucien go an insane yellow, which was a mix of Electric Banana with a tiny hint of Mystic Heather to cool it down, over a bleached and White Lady-toned base.7U6A5725

A few days later, Rain came to the new studio and I crimped her hair with my TIGI 1 Inch Crimper.

I worked through her head in small sections, doing a deep crimp every 3 inches down the strands of each section. It looked so rad!7U6A6825

We decided it would be even cooler in a braid, with flowers, (duh!)

7U6A6921So, I did a dutch braid around her crown, then secured the end with a clear elastic. We pinned the end of the braid into the beginning, by folding the tail over to hide it and pinning into and under the base of the braid.7U6A6928

She pulled at the edges of the braid to bulk it up a bit.7U6A6933

We added flowers, and BOOM!7U6A7072

Rains insane mane strikes again.7U6A7023

Also, just as a side note, we felt weird about shooting photos with an American Flag. I see the flag used a lot in fashion/lifestyle blogs and I don’t quite understand it myself. Is it a patriotism thing? Or a kitsh thing? Anyhow, we gave it a try.

What do you think?
