Just beet it!

Yes, I went for it today. I blended up a large beet in a cup of water and dip-dyed my hair with it. I guess it was my capricorn infatuation with all things earthy and practical, the whole DIY element, using what you have in the garden kind of thing. A friend of mine did it with great results, so I decided to put it to the test.

What I learned is that beets are very messy and stain everything, however they won’t do much to your hair unless it is either incredibly dry and porous or just plain bleached to straw. Luckily, some of my ombre-ed ends were just light and dry enough, and soaked up the color of the beets, which turned out quite beautiful in an earthy magenta kind of way.

A little tip that I figured out the 2nd time around was that you have to really saturate and coat the hair with the beet mixture, and sit in the sun and let it heat up in there to grab the color.
