5 ways to fake a new haircut.

Are you there hair gods? It’s me, HTHG. I am stuck in a hair rut. I’m stuck in hair, stuck in life. I have been growing my hair out for my whole life. I looked at a picture of my hair from a year ago, and it was longer than it is today. Why is this? Because I spend too much time fretting over my hair and trimming it to keep it healthy. And reshaping it. And trimming it. And reshaping it. And I looked at myself in the mirror today and I said to myself “HTHG, you look like an aging hippie woman.”

I am so torn, friends. I think a good ol’ real haircut like a fly little bob would make me feel ready to turn 30 like a woman who has her shit together. Ya know? But also, I really want the experience of having super long cascading hair once in my life. And I’m not getting any younger.Screen Shot 2013-11-29 at 6.06.49 PM Before I get to the point, I’m gonna share my coveted long hair inspiration photo, and also my short hair inspiration photo. Feel free to weigh in;)Screen Shot 2013-11-29 at 6.05.31 PM

Screen Shot 2013-11-22 at 1.30.33 PMI digress. I don’t even know what that term really means, but I like the sound of it. A while ago I was at work waiting for a client, and I was reading Vogue. Sandra Bullock was on the cover with a seamingly short haircut, but I knew better. Her stylist had cleverly pinned her hair up in the back to look like a hipsterish Miley cut. But obvies. Sandy is not going to cut her hair off like that. I thought ‘Hey. If you don’t have the balls to cut your hair off, you can certainly fake it in many different ways.’

So I put this post together for you all, but mostly those of you who waver between your current hair and your sassy dream haircut. Let’s play.

5 ways to fake a new haircut.

fakeyFirst one. Fake-y bangs. When you need bangs but remember what a pain in the ass they can be. Fake em. Take your bang section and roll them sideways into a pincurl. Pin them discreetly.

Next, the Faux-bob. An instant hairstyle polisher for those extra witchy wild hair days. Take all the hair in the back and roll it under. pin it to secure. You can also just make a loose bun. Arrange the appropriate hair bits around your face.

The insta-pixie! Take all the hair into a ponytail in the middle of the back of your head. Twist it and pull the twist upward toward the top of your head. Use a couple of bobby pins to secure the twist in place.  Fan the ends of your hair forward over your forehead like a faux-pixie fringe.

The ‘my hair grew 6 inches overnight’ ponytail. You can also call it the ‘tiny-tail extender’. Take most of the hair into a high ponytail. Leave the hair out at the nape of the neck, basically the section from the top of each ear across the back of the head. Give your top ponytail a facelift. Now gather the nape hair into another small ponytail and give it a facelift too. This tiny tail adds buku extra length to the appearance of your tail!

Lastly, when you wish you could pull off that super asymmetrical undercut haircut, try a twist starting on one side and going halfway across the back of the head. This takes length away from one side and adds volume to the other for a fun over-the-shoulder look.

Maybe these tricks will get me through to a phase where I am no longer craving a smart little bob. We will see, then, won’t we?

Try these tricks on otherwise uninspired hair days.

xoxo, HTHG
